George Bailey appointed Kings XI skipper

Australian Twenty20 national team captain George Bailey will also lead IPL franchisee Kings XI Punjab in the 7th season of the tournament this year. Bailey replaces fellow Australian Adam Gilchrist, who called it quits from IPL after the last season. Gilchrist led Kings XI for three consecutive seasons from the fourth edition.

Kings XI promoters had bought Bailey in the IPL auction last month for Rs 3.25 crore. There are three more Aussies in the squad, Mitchell Johnson, Glenn Maxwell and Shaun Marsh, adding the much-needed firepower to the Punjab team.

Kings XI coach Sanjay Bangar, who played a major role in building up the squad in the IPL auctions, felt that Bailey was a natural choice for the leadership role keeping his credentials as the Australian T20 team captain in mind.
