After champion Sebastian Vettel, Nico Hulkenberg has been the most talked-about driver in the second half of the 2013 season. The German has been billed as the next big thing in Formula One and now a year after his move to Sauber, Hulkenberg is back in Sahara Force India (SFI) stables for the 2014 season.

Hulkenberg finished 10th in the Drivers Championships, ahead of both SFI drivers Paul Di Resta and Adrian Sutil after scoring points in six of the last eight races in the season. "I am happy to come back to Sahara Force India.

The team is aiming high for next year and I believe that the experience I have gained over the years will help us achieve those goals," Hulkenberg announced on Tuesday. The high-points for Hulkenberg this season were the phenomenal drive to fifth place in the Italian Grand Prix in Monza and fine sixth-place finish in Japanese and US Grand Prix.

"I genuinely believe we can have a competitive package in 2014. I've heard a lot of positive things about the Mercedes engine as well, so I think there is a lot to be excited about next year.

I know this team and I can see their determination. It's a great bunch of people and we all share the same hunger for success," the German said. The German was favoured to move to Lotus to fill in the spot left vacant by Kimi Raikkonen but instead, he agreed to a multi-year deal with Force India, having spent 2011 and 2012 season with the team.

Force India refused to announce its second driver for next year. Former McLaren driver Sergio Perez is tipped to join Hulkenberg in the team with Adrian Sutil is likely to move to Sauber.

"I'm delighted to see Nico back with Sahara Force India. When he drove for us in 2012, it became clear Nico was an exceptional talent and he has continued to impress everyone in the paddock with his strong performances this season.

Having Nico in our lineup is a real statement of intent and a huge boost for everyone associated with the team. We have high hopes and expectations for 2014 and by signing Nico we have put ourselves in the best position to achieve those objectives and enjoy what could be our most competitive season yet," Force India team principal Vijay Mallya said.
