We take a look at top sporting moments of 2013. 'God' retires: Indian cricket bid adieu to its most favourite son Sachin Tendulkar after a glittering career of 24 years. The "Little Master" finished his career as the sport's most prolific international run-scorer.



Lance Armstrong's confession: Lance Armstrong finally confessed to have used performance-enhancing drugs in the last decade of his career. He put himself on a par with Canadian athlete Ben Johnson as the world's most notorious drugs cheat. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey in January, Armstrong ended his years of denials about doping and said that he was a ''flawed character".



Oscar Pistorius accused of murder: Stunned disbelief greeted the news that Oscar Pistorius, a South African sprint runner who uses carbon-fibre prosthetic blades to compete, had shot dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day.  He was granted bail on 22nd February 2013 and at a subsequent hearing on 19th August 2013 dates were set for a trial from 3rd to 20th March 2014.



Spot-fixing shame: Indian Premier League saw its biggest controversy when Delhi Police exposed a spot-fixing and betting scandal. An Indian Test player, son-in-law of the BCCI president and a co-owner of a team among many were accused of wrongdoings. Indian Test pacer S Sreesanth and spinner Ankeet Chavan were also handed life bans.



Murray ends grand slam draught: Andy Murray ended Britain's 77-year wait for a grand slam by beating Novak Djokovic in the final of Wimbledon. The Scot won the title in straight sets.



Beckham calls time: Football megastar David Beckham retired after a glittering 20-year playing career in which he became one of the most widely recognised figures in world sport.



Anand's reign ends: Five-time title-holder Viswanathan Anand's reign as the world champion came to a heart-breaking end with Norway's Magnus Carlsen taking the crown after a hard-fought draw in the 10th game of the World Chess Championship match.



Vettel's domination: Sebastian Vettel won 13 titles of the season, equaling the record held by Michael Schumacher. He also matched the record of nine straight wins and was crowned drivers champion as well.



Nadal's remarkable comeback: Rafael Nadal suffered Wimbledon humiliation at the hands of Belgian world number 135 Steve Darcis, a shock first round defeat. However, he staged a remarkable comeback by winning US Open.



Bayern Munich finally did it: Arjen Robben scored a heart-stopping 89th-minute winner to earn Bayern Munich a dramatic 2-1 win over German rivals Borussia Dortmund after a thrilling Champions League final at London's Wembley Stadium. Bayern Munich finished runners-up in 2009-10 and 2011-12 season.



Alex Ferguson bids adieu: Alex Ferguson retired as Manchester United manager, bringing down the curtain on one of the most successful careers football has known.



Indian girls shine: It was celebration time for country's hockey lovers as India held their nerves to beat a fancied England 3-2 on penalties to claim the bronze medal in the Junior Women's World Cup in Monchengladbach, Germany. They became the first women's team to win a medal in a World Cup



Indian Badminton League launch: 2013 saw the launch of Indian Badminton League, a franchise league by Badminton Association of India (BAI). Saina Nehwal-led Hyderabad Hotshots crowned themselves as the champions of the inaugural edition of the league.
