The Supreme Court issued a non-bailable warrantagainst Sahara chief Subrata Roy for his failure to appear in court on Wednesday, February 26, 2014.

The Supreme Court has ordered the police to arrest him and produce him in court on March 4.

The court issued the NBW after finding Subrata Roy not present in court today despite the February 20 order.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday had rejected Subrata Roy's request for exemption from personal appearance. Roy had cited his 95-year-old mother's illness as a reason.

A day before the mandated appearance before the court, Roy - through senior advocate Ram Jethmalani - requested a bench of Justices K S Radhakrishnan and J S Khehar for exemption from personal appearance, while assuring that other directors would be present before the court.

The bench told Jethmalani that it was not going to modify any of its earlier orders, including the February 20 order asking for personal presence of Roy and others.

The bench said, "Rule of law has to be maintained."

There must be strict compliance of our orders, it added. Jethmalani said he would try to ensure full compliance of the court's order. The bench responded, "We will see your approach tomorrow and consider."

SaharachiefSubrata Roy surrendered on Friday in Lucknow and was taken into custody by the cops.

Senior advocate Ram Jethmalani on Friday informed the Supreme Court that Subrata Roy had surrendered in Lucknow.

The move comes a day after UP Police team on Thrusday led a raid in Lucknow to arrest the Saharachief.

The police team did not find the Saharachief at his residence.

Subrata Roy's son addressed a press conference announcing that Saharachief had surrendered wilfully. He also informed that the Saharachief would be moving again for relief from Supreme Court.

Earlier on Friday, Subrata Roy said that he was not absconding from arrest and was ready to "unconditionally follow" whatever direction the Supreme Court gives him.
