Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 248 runs with a day to spare in the first Test in Dhaka on Thursday to take the lead in the two-match series.

Bangladesh, trailing by a huge 498-run margin on first innings, were bowled out for 250 in their second knock after lunch on the fourth day at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium.

Off-spinner Dilruwan Perera claimed five wickets and seamer Suranga Lakmal took three as the hosts were dismissed in 51.5 overs.

Sri Lanka have now defeated Bangladesh in 14 of their 15 Tests, eight of them by an innings margin. The other match was drawn.

On their previous tour in 2008-09, Sri Lanka had won the first Test by 107 runs and the second by 465 runs.

Bangladesh, who languish at the bottom of the Test rankings at number 10 -- lower than unfancied Zimbabwe -- have lost 68 of their 82 Tests since gaining full status in 2000.

The second Test starts in the port city of Chittagong on February 4. It will be followed by two Twenty20 matches and three one-day internationals.

CNG prices will be cut by about Rs 15 per kg and cooking gas piped to kitchens by about Rs 5 after government decided to supply cheaper domestic gas to fuel retailers in cities like Delhi and Ahmedabad.

Oil minister M Veerappa Moily said the government has decided to raise allocation of natural gas from domestic fields to city gas entities to 100% from current limit of 80%.

This would be done by cutting supplies to non-core sectors like petrochemicals, steel and refineries. The decision would help in reduction of prices of compressed natural gas (CNG) retailed to automobiles in cities like Delhi and Ahmedabad.

It will also bring down prices of piped cooking gas to households as cheaper domestic gas will replace costlier imported LNG that entities were using now. "Our target is common man... we want to give common man a relief and in a way this is an anti-inflationary measure," the minister said.

Presently Mumbai sources all of its gas requirement from domestic fields and as such there will be no cut in rates in the city. However, in Delhi, which presently uses as much as 28% of costlier imported LNG, and cities in Gujarat like Ahmedabad which too were heavily reliant on imported fuel, will see a price cut.

"This (move) would lead to reduction in price of CNG and PNG across the country (except in those cities which are already getting 100% domestic gas like Mumbai).
The price of CNG in Delhi would be reduced by about Rs 15 per kg (about 30%). There will also be a reduction of about Rs 5 per cubic metres (about 20%) in the price of PNG," Moily said.

5 killed, 31 injured in cinema grenade blasts

At least five people were killed and nearly 20 others injured when two blasts ripped through a cinema hall in the capital of the restive Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of northwest Pakistan on Sunday.

According to initial reports, around 70 people were in the theatre when the blasts occurred.

A Pashto film was being screened at the hall located opposite a police station.

Five people were killed by the blasts, media reports said. The injured were taken to the state-run Lady Reading Hospital. Many of the injured were in a critical condition, said a report on the website of the Dawn newspaper.

Officials said they suspected that someone threw two grenades inside the hall. No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Footage on television showed footwear and caps lying strewn at the cinema hall.

England's sorry tour of Australia finally ended with a whimper Sunday -- a crushing 84-run defeat to give the hosts a clean sweep of the three-game Twenty20 series.

The Australians, with man-of-the-match George Bailey smashing an unbeaten 49 off 20 balls, scored 195 for six after winning the toss in Sydney.

The home side then dismissed the psychologically-scarred tourists for 111 in the 18th over to sweep the series.

It marked the end of a disastrous 103-day tour for England, who lost the Ashes Tests 5-0 and the one-day international series 4-1, meaning Australia won 12-1 across the three formats.

It's been good fun throughout the tour. We've been hugely disappointing, not at the races for three months, but you have to give credit to Australia," said England T20 skipper Stuart Broad. "We've got a two-week break at home and then go to the Caribbean but we know we're a decent T20 side.
